Today is about refocusing and how I’m trying hard not to feel like I suck right now. I know in my head that I don’t. But in my heart and the part of me that writes– I feel completely yucky. I’ve been doing Nano and slowly losing ground. My focus is shot because my day job got hard. Really hard. As in a college semester worth of work and mindfulness hard in one month– and OMG, what the hell am I thinking on taking this on while doing the other- hard. I know, I should be slowly working for my daily counts, just pushing through it all. But it’s not that easy for me. Not this month. Let me explain. Continue reading
Taking Savvy Author Classes. This week I finish up Nano Prep class and my Scrivener course. OMG, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Scrivener course. Why? Because for the first time ever– I can use it! Do you know how awesome that is? A huge thanks to Patrick Haggerty for teaching us and for just really going that extra mile for using videos and text. It so made the difference to me. I know, you’re laughing at me. It’s the old adage, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” For me, it’s true but not. For me, the grass is greener and it’s cleaner than it has at all over the past few months. But that’s more my personal thing than my writing thing. We’ll cover that too. Writing is also greener too. It’s getting cleaner as well. That’s what happens when you’ve got good people you can work with and bounce ideas when you need it. Which is why I can say– I like my green grass! It reminds me of growing up in Illinois and in North Carolina. The grass was always great to lay down on, allowing you to gaze into the sky while not worrying about killer fire ants like here in Florida. It’s also a sign to me that I’m happy. Things are growing, organizing themselves, and finally, things are simplifying even while complicated. I know that sounds crazy but work with me here– it works. Continue reading
I’m prepping for the last quarter of Row80. I’m also prepping for NaNoWriMo. Notice the panic. Lol. On the plus side, I’m taking two classes to help with Nano. One is a Nano prep class. The second is a class about Scrivener. I’m learning tons in both. These two classes will benefit me in my writing as well.
Today’s top feature… work got weird. Yes, the day job that is actually overnight– is not going to be much longer. Come the end of the month– it’ll be gone. However, do not cry for me. I haven’t lost my job completely. My company is moving all of us to other departments. Thus, I spent a day having to decide which departments fit me best and which hours (which are NOT overnight) would be most likely for me to enjoy and be easier on us as a family. So, that’s what I did. I also had to get over that nagging sensation like I was losing my job again. It’s not like that, the contract is just up with the company and they elected not to renew. Nothing major. But at the same time, part of me feels like I’ve been dumped. I know it’s silly, but there you have it. However, the news I got on Saturday, more than made up for my Friday.
