Thinking on it, I wanted to revisit a story I’ve not finished telling, but have hinted at. That of Kymaera. She’s one of my favorite female characters and someone whom I’m very fond of. Enjoy.

“Scream for me, sirrah.”

            Pyotr Sassylich looked around, his senses zooming in on the small grouping of people outside of Tavro’s nightclub. Moving swifter than a jaguar, he made his way towards the tiny group of men and women that surrounded the human female. Just what he didn’t need– a confrontation with Jan Mueller, a fellow Vampyr from another line.

“No one is screaming tonight, Jan.” Pyotr put the growl in his voice. Just enough of a warning to make the younger Vampyr back away from the silver blonde hair woman. The rest scattered with the tone of warning. “You know better than this, Jan.”

“No, you refuse to acknowledge the truth, comrade.” Jan turned his amber eyes upon Pyotr. “This isn’t an ordinary-“

His comment was ended as the woman lashed out and took Jan out at the knees. His body shuddered on the ground unconscious as the woman spoke.

“Pyo, I didn’t need your help. I wanted to know just how far Jan would go. He verges on being Rogue.”

“Kymaera? But how come you seem-” He hesitated, trying to figure out how this woman, this woman from his past could be human, when she was an older vampyr than he was. He knew his sense wouldn’t lie to him about her being human.

The woman stood up and brushed off the dirt from her black outfit. Her green eyes twinkled. Green eyes? “Kymaera, how-”

“Seeker. I am Seeker now, Pyotr Sassylich.”

“Fuck that, Kymaera. You were once head…”

“Of the Sekhmet line. I know. No longer though, Pyo. I’m now Head Seeker for the High Council and you’ve ruined a perfectly good lead. I should bleed you or punish you for this, but I’m not into becoming splatter art for you.” Her voice was low and melodious. Somehow, this woman still affected him, feeling the trail of lust curl inside him.

Part of him seethed at knowing the woman who turned him was now human, something he could never be again. Yet, how did this ancient vampyr become human again? The risk at taking the Elixir d’Morte was too high for someone of her lineage. “Why?” It was all he could ask. It was the only question there was between them.

For all we talk about sex and sexuality, the female libido and the factors that influence it are not well researched or well understood. What makes it difficult is that for a long time, it was all about the male libido, the male sex drive. For those of you who were old enough to remember when it first came out about the female orgasm and the G-spot, remember the fervor? I’m not denigrating the need to understand males or their sex drive, but just a reminder that female sex needs to be understood as well as the other part of the equation. What limited studies have shown is that women do experience a need for more primal type sex before and during their periods.

Now, before people go left, right and rampant about having sex while a woman’s having her period- let me state that I always insist on safe sex between partners, especially if they’ve not discussed sex and health issues. The idea of not having sex during a menstrual period comes about from many sources and ideas- one it’s a time of power for a woman, it’s not pleasant to be part of if you’re a male, and the idea that it’s unclean- per religious beliefs. However, there is no scientific data that says it’s acceptable or not. In fact, it’s decidedly mixed, just as women are a mixed bag themselves. What does that mean?

Some women are horny, some are not. Some women spook at the idea of having sex while bleeding. But one thing to note- the amount of blood is minimal- approximately 80 ml, or a little over 2 ounces. The rest is other fluids and membranes being flushed out of the system because of nonpregnancy. It’s an individual decision on whether or not to engage in sexual activity during your menses. Personally, as long as you play safely, I see no reason for it. For me, I find it helps with cramps, the hormonal urges for sex, and most importantly, it allows me a chance to get a bit wild.

So, what does safe play include? First- no open cuts on either individual. If there are any, they must be properly protected. Condoms are absolutely essential as well. If you’re determined to have sex on a bed or another area besides the bathroom, make sure you have coverings that absorb fluids. I usually recommend a tarp or rubber sheet covered by a couple of older towels that you don’t use much anymore. For me, the only place to have sex during my period is the shower. Why? Because I can get clean right after, along with my lover. Of course, it helps if you have an oversized hot water heater, as you can be in there for a while, depending on whether or not it takes a while for you to orgasm.

So, how does one have intercourse while having one’s period if the lover is willing? A variety of ways. Depending on how you both wish to start, I recommend the use of waterproof, easily cleaned toys. Why toys? Shower time is one of my favourite sex during my period times. Why? Because of the clean factor and because there’s something very sexy about having sex in the shower anyway. The fact I can indulge it and not have to worry so much about making a mess is one less worry. Plus, for many men, this could be the deciding factor for them to try it. The lessons for spirit are a bit harder than the ones for the other elements. One, because you have to be able to use your other abilities to help guide in the spirit element. Two, because it will take longer to see results. But, if you learn to work with Spirit, you will see a beautiful link to your own spiritual self and the connection to all the Elements.

Lesson 1: Remember the fire lesson with the candle? This time, we’re going to use the candle flame to help us focus on the spirit and the universe around us. Go to a quiet room with no stray breezes. Do your usual ritual to begin working magick and calling upon the Elements. Light the candle, making sure that you’re not too close, thus preventing your body from influencing the flame. This time, focus on and past the flame. Think of your focus like when you’re looking at those pictures that have hidden pictures within it. The idea here is to almost to hyperfocus to the point that you see not just the flame but all that makes the flame burn. I usually know when I reach this part of focus when I find myself captivated by the sylphs who flow past the flame itself, enjoying themselves being lifted upwards by the warming of the air.

When this happens, open yourself up to the Spirit of the universe. Ask a question, ask about something you’ve always wanted to understand more about yourself or in this world. Allow yourself a chance to listen with your full mind. You might see pictures, sense emotions and more. If you have a notepad beside you, jot down the impressions while allowing yourself to receive them. Don’t try to manipulate them, or see deeper within. Right now, you’re just opening yourself to receiving what the universe would like to tell you. You’ll know when you’re finished, because normally you’ll suddenly see the room for what it is and things will seem impossibly normal. It’s your mind’s way of bringing you back to this mortality.

Lesson 2: Take time to walk in a neighborhood or woods near your home. The idea is simple, allow yourself to communicate with all Elements, and allow Spirit to guide you in what you see, experience, and become aware of. You may find that you’re inspired about something that normally doesn’t reach out to you. But in this one time, one moment- you’ll find that connection with things you normally don’t notice.

We have fought for our freedoms, amended the Constitution to make sure civil liberties were not trampled upon. Yet, the issue of same-sex marriage is causing a huge fervor- radicals on both sides. But the bottom line is not one of morality or belief. As I quoted before- George Washington has stated the United States is NOT based upon the Christianity belief system, but on basic human rights.

Before everyone jumps on me, let me quote the Fourteenth Amendment, which people in various states and beliefs better remember and think hard on what it means in all instances. “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

So, people, think on this. Are gays, lesbians US citizens or not? That’s the bottom line. If they are US citizens, paying taxes, providing protection, then you can NOT deny them their rights of happiness or that of marriage- which is a CIVIL union, not a religious one. That means,  by abridging the rights of marriage, insurance coverage and more to gays, the States and those who live within them are breaking the 14th Amendment. That’s right, under the US Constitution, by voting on abridging the rights of other US citizens is ILLEGAL. That’s right, no matter what’s said or done, in the end, do you really think the Supreme Court won’t refer to this matter in the long run and say, “You can’t do that- it breaks all of the 14th Amendment.”

Think people. Do you want your rights abused and broken because in one way or another– you’re a minority? Think on it, Think on it hard and remember- one day you WILL be the minority, then what? Do you want your past to come back and haunt you?

I can contact him and arrange an appointment for you, if you’d like.”

“Yes. Maybe with his experience, he can make sense of how I’ve believed one thing of myself and how the tests say another.” Brielle stood. “Send me an email with the information once you’ve set it up. I can rearrange my work schedule if need be to accomodate Dr. Garshon.”

“As you wish. Best of luck, Ms. Frijion. Expect my email within the hour.”

The next night

Brielle stepped up to the door of House Thor, her body shivering slightly in response to the colder weather, partly in nervousness. The house was in ancient Norse styling, with the fierce dragonheads looking out from each side of the double doors. She lifted her wrist with its id bracelet to one dragon, letting it scan and verify her identity. The doors parted and she felt a rush of warmth hit her. Walking in slowly, she spotted one young woman dressed in a simple dress with a waist chain heading her way.

“Miss Frijion? I’m Gelsi, one of the greeters here at House Thor. Let me take your coat and show you where you can change.” Gelsi led her to a small hallway that ended in a changing room. The young woman handed her a package. “You can change here in the open or in one of the smaller cubicles. These clothes were chosen by Dr. Garshon. Once you’ve changed, you go out the blue door and at the end of the hallway, go through the door marked with the sign of Thor.”

“Then what?” Brielle felt a bit curious. “Is that a play room of some kind?”

The woman smiled. “Dr. Garshon will be waiting there. The room is one reserved for training and privacy. Enjoy your stay here at House Thor. We hope you’ll fit in here with us.” Gelsi turned and left, leaving Brielle with her thoughts.

Brielle changed, then did as Gelsi directed. She felt a bit exposed in the deep blue linen shift that covered her body, but felt so thin as to be transparent. Standing before the door with Thor’s sign, she hesitated. Though I’ve not covered about BDSM, I do teach a workshop helping writers learn more about the basics of BDSM and all its components. One of those happens to be scening- where you act out a role play, use toys, and even furniture to create a mood and mindset within the person you’re involved with. So, what are some of the most popular pieces of furniture and how can they be used in less intense play?

One of the most popular pieces of equipment help you when you’re having sex. I call them wedges and slings, others call them by other names. Wedges incline parts of the body to allow full penetration and to also ease the burden of holding a position for any length of time. Slings do the same, but using straps attached to the headboard or under the mattress to provide the stability. In this category, I also place restraints. Lessons with Fire:

The first lesson I often have my students do is to buy some candles and a lighter. I have them sit in a spot where there is no draft and light one candle. They sit about a foot or two away from the flame and focus upon the flame itself. See the components of heat to the flame- from the bright orangey-yellow exterior down to the blue-white interior portion. See them as individual aspects of fire and then slowly refocus your attention to see it as a whole. Just as you are part of a whole, you are also an individual piece of fire. Feel yourself become part of Fire, burning brightly separately and together with others who choose to serve the Flame.

Lesson Two: Once you feel reenergized and focused, begin bending the flame to your will. This will take a lot of time, unless you’re truly a child of Fire. Watch the flame, its movements, how it shifts its shape while it burns. Then slowly focus your attention to make the middle bend to one direction then another. See it growing taller, then shorter. The idea here is learning how to control the flame and to hyperfocus with a touch of telekinesis with the element itself. It’ll take a while for you to learn how to read the flame and learn how to make it dance. But once you can get it to bend to your will, you’ll discover how fluid Fire can be.

Alexa’s brow lifted as a smile lit her face. “Oh, he thinks that he can force this spaceport to keep us? He doesn’t know that I own the place yet, does he? Recall the rest of our crew and let’s get going then. We’ll teach his Lordship some manners when he finds out the shipment of supplies from FP has been hijacked. Thanks for the warning, Carrie.”

Carrie nodded, then left to do what was required. Alexa sighed before turning from the prow of her ship. It was time to deal with His Lordship on direct terms. Try to harm her people? Wasn’t going to happen. He’d be naked and on his knees begging for mercy by the time she was done with him.

When I read this question, I got excited. I mean excited to the point I brought out my favourite sex toy catalogs and decided to go toy shopping myself. Now, there are toys for her, toys for him and couple toys out there. And though I advocate many places to shop for toys- once you find a place you really like and trust- patronage them regularly. Water is a neutral element, though because of its flexibility has the ability to become positive or negative very easily. Which, when you consider how quickly water can go from helpful to destructive, makes sense. Let’s talk a bit about the positive and negative aspects of water.

Positive: reacting to change in a flowing manner, cleansing, nourishing, flexibility to attain shape of various containers, able to help with healing

Negative: ambivalency, indiscriminate flooding, drowning, unable to hold form without help.

What about the Elementals associated with water? Undines are elemental creatures similar in looks and nature to mermaids. They are the essence of water and their natures reflect that clearly. We have many accounts of undines from people who’ve been helped or hindered by them and other water element creatures. If you take the time to see- you might even see an undine playing today at a lake or stream.

Lesson One: States of Water

This is magick and science in one. Growing up, we’re all told about the states that water can take- liquid, solid, vapor. We’re going to do this as well, but with a slight change. Fill 3 glasses about 2/3 full of water. Place one in the freezer, dump the contents of another into a pan on the stove while turning on the heat to medium high, and place the third on the windowsill. Let’s start with the water on the stove.

As the water boils, feel the steam forming as the water molecules get faster and faster. Feel how clean and hot it can be. Think on how steam can not only purify, but also help to lift that which burdens you away. Concentrate on this moment, the burdens you bear– and then release them into the pot of water, letting them boil away. When there is only an inch or so left, place a lid on the pan, then turn off the heat. Realize that the steam will now condense back into a purified water…allowing you to see how the positive and negative can so easily mix and how the element can help us to purify ourselves and allow in what we want to. Feel the creativity within you becoming free and allow your mind to imagine the possibilities and how to make them into reality.

Now turn to the glass on the windowsill. Depending on the temperature of the house and the sunshine, you might notice that some of the water has evaporated into the air. Otherwise, look closely at the water. Notice how it retains the shape of the glass it’s in. It’s malleable, fluid. Able to take the shape of anything when poured in or out of it. Take it to the sink and slowly pour the water over one free hand. Notice the texture of how the water feels as it touches you. See how it rinses away dirt and other things on our skin. See how it manuevers over the crevices and bumps of our skin, thus making new paths as it follows gravity. Just as water flows over and around things, allow your mind to let your thoughts pass over and around the blocks presented to you. Allow yourself the freedom to think past those things and find solutions.

After a couple of hours, go to the freezer and remove the glass with the now frozen water. You might notice that it’s not all frozen. Notice how the ice has formed and its clarity or lack thereof. Touch the surface and notice how the element has gotten colder, harder, keeping its shape. Just as imagination is fluid and free, it can also become concrete and set in place by giving it solidity. Think on the things you’d like to accomplish, visualizing them coming true and seeing them to fruition.

Lesson 2: Cleansing Ritual

One of the most important uses of Water is in cleansing rituals. We allow water to cleanse away impurities, help bring our minds into focus for the magick we’re going to work. With this in mind, creating our own cleansing ritual is vitally important to each person who works magick.

Put together a cleansing ritual by thinking on what items you’ll need to prepare the mood, what bath salts or oils you’ll need to bathe in, and what the ritual means to you personally. Put together some phrases to use while you prepare the ritual bath, sprinkle the salts or oil into the water, and what you’d like Water to help you with. Don’t be afraid to get creative or use rhymes. It’s okay to make a template so you can adapt the ritual for other uses- the idea here is to use Water for purifying the various things you do and make an outline you can use that is familiar, and gets you into the correct frame of mind to cleanse yourself before working high magick.
