Some of us authors have been talking a lot lately about sales- our ebook sales that is. One thing we’ve noticed is that overall sales are switching up a bit from our main publishers over to third party vendors. Some of my friends are not happy about this, but personally, I’m not bothered. In fact, I’ve been anticipating this very thing for the last three years since the introduction of Kindle by Amazon and now the Nook/Nook Color by Barnes and Noble. Most people who know me have heard me time and again push for our publishers to be proactive and involved in third party vendors that have active sales and are well known to readers. This Christmas has shown just how right I’ve been in pushing for this kind of partnership between publisher and third party vendors. More »
I’m not a NaNoWriMo girl. I’m just not. It’s too much for me to do and have a life. I love Candy Haven’s Fast Draft– but it takes time for me to plan out to do that. So, Dawn Montgomery linked to it on FB and now I’ve joined the insane crew on the Starship 80 Days. How can you sign up? http://aroundofwordsin80days.wordpress.com/2010/11/17/sign-up-for-row80-round-1/ For me, I’m figuring out just how much I need to write during that time– I’m thinking about 1k per day, 5 days a week, with 2 days for promo and free writing.
So come and join me!
One of my writing buddies gave me the URL to a fantastic article dealing with editing and how professional writers should handle edits. It’s snarky, it’s fun and most importantly, it’s a good reminder to get things done when you’re supposed to. It’s definitely going to be bookmarked for future reference just to keep my hate of editing at a minimum. My reason for not liking editing isn’t because I think I’m better than that- it’s because I’m usually in a new story and I don’t wanna go back to a story that I know so well already. To my mind it’s done and over with. *sigh* But this, might just keep me laughing through edits.
Recently, there have been lots of talks regarding covers and sales in the ebook and print industry. So I wanted to take a poll to see what the reality is when it comes to how much influence cover art has on sales. The poll will run for a month, so please participate and pass on the link. The more we know, the more we can show if bad cover art or even great cover art can help sell our stories or break our stories.
I’m often asked about who my favourite hero is when I write. Funny thing is, my favourite isn’t one of my own. In fact, he’s the creation of Elizabeth Peter’s (aka Dr. Barbara Mertz aka Barbara Michaels). More »
I received a rejection this week from publisher I really would like to work with. In fact, I was on the borderline of wondering– would this be my way in or be a rejection–and I was prepared either way. But this rejection didn’t hurt. In fact, this rejection made my day. Why? More »

Read it and think on it. The wave of publishing is changing, and it’d be nice if those who say they’re on the writer’s side would be in the forefront for once!
Today, I’m posting for me, about me. Last week Thursday, I got my hair cut, styled, and coloured. I love it. It’s still easy to take care of and my natural waves and curls are now coming out more. One of my workmates did it for me- and she did a fantastic job! I’ve begun taking small steps towards doing more for myself and to get myself back in shape, physically, mentally and in my writing. It’s not easy, because I’m still very tired easily and my sleep has good and bad nights. It’s definitely hard to overcome that, but I’m trying hard to do so. More »
